        Quân lực Hoa Kỳ nói chung, và Vệ Binh Quốc Gia Tiểu bang Virginia nói riêng, có thêm một Chuẩn tướng Người Mỹ gốc Việt:  Đại tá Lapthe C. Flora. 

        Ông là một trong số 64 vị Đại tá được Quốc Hội Hoa Kỳ chấp thuận vào ngày 5 tháng 8, 2015.

        Đại tá Lapth C. Flora sinh năm 1964 tại Saigon, vượt biên đến Indonesia, rồi định cư tại Hoa Kỳ từ năm 1979.

        Ông nói được tiếng Việt và tiếng Quảng Đông.  Sau khi tốt nghiệp Trung học, ông theo học tại Trường Võ Bị của Virginia (VMI - Virginia Military Institute) tại Lexington, Virginia. Ra trường năm 1987, ông phục vụ Vệ Binh Quốc Gia Tiểu bang Virginia. Hiện nay ông là Chỉ huy trưởng đơn vị Bowling Green-based 91st Troop / Virginia Army National Guard.

A *Fifth* Star for ’87!

Thanks to MSS3 ’87, we learned that Colonel Lapthe C. Flora, of the Virginia National Guard and the VMI Class of ’87, has been nominated and confirmed for the rank of Brigadier General.  He is the fifth member of ’87 to pin on stars.

COL (P) Flora ’87 is, I hasten to add, one of my fellow Roanokers, part of the sizable contingent in that class from the Star City and environs. Look him up and read about him, he has a tremendous story.

Also from MSS3’87, a running count of the classes in recent memory with the most stars–

” ’87 is not alone, ” he writes– ” ’79 has 5, ’75 has 5, ’66 has 5, ’65 has 5, and ’51 has 9.”

91st Troop Command welcomes Flora as new commander

Col. Lapthe C. Flora takes command of the Bowling Green-based 91st Troop Command from Col. Marti J. Bissell in a traditional change of command ceremony held May 17, 2015, at the Army Aviation Support Facility in Sandston, Va. Brig. Gen. Walter L. Mercer, the Virginia National Guard’s Assistant Adjutant General - Army presided over the exchange of unit colors that represented the transfer of command from Bissell to Flora. Mercer awarded Bissell the Legion of Merit in recognition of her service as the commander of 91st Troop Command. The 29th Division Band provided musical accompaniment for the ceremony.
